Record attendance confirmed for The Telegraph Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show 2015 – Driven by SEAT
Outdoor, travel and fitness enthusiasts from across the country gathered at London’s ExCeL from 12 – 15 February to celebrate the best of outdoor, adventure and travel, at the UK’s most adventurous Show.
The Telegraph Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show – Driven by SEAT, which co-located with The London Bike Show and the Triathlon Show: London, attracted 50,271 visitors, an 11% increase year on year. All three events are organised by Telegraph Events.
Catering for active travellers, photographers, climbers, walkers, watersport enthusiasts, cyclists, triathletes and families looking for an exciting day out, the Show was extremely well received with visitors and exhibitors thrilled by the quality and quantity of the content present. Exhibitors at the Show included Páramo, Craghoppers, DMM International, Mexico Tourism, Jöttnar, Primus Camping, OEX, Brunton, Fjallraven, PADI and many more.
The Show took its climbing offering to the next level in 2015 with the addition of SuperBloc, a new concept wall developed in conjunction with DMM Climbing. Featuring a mixture of elite, open competitions and masterclass sessions across the four days, SuperBloc was very well received, and welcomed some of the UK’s best climbers, including Shauna Coxsey and Dave Barrans who won the female and male categories respectively in the highly competitive RAB SuperBloc Masters.
Alex Haslehurst – Southern Area Sales Manager, DMM International
“DMM had a great time exhibiting at this years Show. The SuperBloc wall was epic, and it was amazing to see the best climbers from all across the country competing for a huge prize fund. This definitely helped attract lots of climbing enthusiasts to the Show and we’re already looking forward to 2016. Stay tuned as we have some big plans!”
Located in the heart of The Climbing Village in association with Guide Dogs for the Blind, SuperBloc certainly attracted the crowds but there was also a host of equipment to browse and other walls to conquer, catering for climbers of all ages and abilities. Visitors also had the chance to hear from and meet popular adventurers including Kenton Cool, Doug Scott, Shauna Coxsey (who took part in a ladies climbing forum) and Richard Parks who spoke on the Climb & Adventure Stage sponsored by Graubünden Tourism.
Sarah Junker – UK Sales & Marketing Manager, Graubünden Tourism
“As it was our first time at the Show we didn’t quite know what to expect, but felt that the Show theme and audience were a perfect match for our destination. The level of engagement with Show visitors was very positive, no doubt helped by the fact that we were able to pitch our stand in between the various talks on the Climb & Adventure Stage. Considering it’s not solely a travel show per se, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of the enquiries – we definitely felt that we were talking to the right kind of crowd.”
Kenton Cool – Climb & Adventure Stage speaker
“I just wanted to say a big thank you and also a BIG WELL DONE. I thought the show was much improved since my last visit in 2013 and I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 days there. The stage that I spoke at was much better than in 2013 and was packed both days that I spoke. All the staff I engaged with were brilliant and very helpful with all answers at their fingertips!!! I very much look forward to working with you again.”
Bursting with a variety of tourist boards, active holiday companies and tour operators, as well as a fantastic line up of speakers on the Telegraph Travel Stage sponsored by Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, including James Cracknell, Monty Halls, Steve Backshall, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and Levison Wood, the Show showcased what’s hot in travel for 2015 and inspired visitors looking for their next adventure.
Katharine Schäfli – Head of Brand, Clipper Round the World Yacht Race
“We had a great number of people visiting the Clipper Race dome who were in search of a big adventure and a truly unique experience within which they could really test their own limits and capabilities. Spending four days in the company of fellow adventurers and listening to some of the speakers, some of which were our own, was truly inspiring.”
Miguel Chang – Director, Embassy of Cuba
“It was our first time to the Show as an exhibitor and we are happy to experience that visitors were very interested in travelling to Cuba to enjoy any of the beautiful places we have to offer for outdoor and adventure travel. We would definitely like to participate next year again as we have seen a high interest in our country.”
Working closely with Outdoor Photography magazine, some of the UK’s top photographers joined the line up on the Outdoor Photography PhotoBox sponsored by Fjӓllrӓven. Visitors took advantage of tips from two of the best wildlife photographers in the business, Andy Parkinson and Luke Massey, Outdoor Photography editor Steve Watkins and action photographers, Steve Behr and Pete Webb. The area, which included a gallery of images from Outdoor Photographer of the Year finalists, gave photographers of all abilities the opportunity to get inspiration and learn something new.
Steve Watkins – Editor, Outdoor Photography magazine
“The Telegraph Outdoor Adventure & Travel Show was a big success for us again this year. The theatre looked awesome and drew lots of positive comments from speakers and visitors alike. The talks were all really well attended, with audiences overflowing out into the aisle. There was a great vibe around the Show again, and we know that being there has had a significant positive impact on the perception of our brand.”
The attractions help to create a fantastic atmosphere within the event and provide a huge draw for visitors – creating the perfect environment for exhibitors and sponsors to interact with outdoor enthusiasts and their families.
Steve Clark – Group Show Director, Telegraph Events:
“I am delighted that we have secured two years of significant back to back growth in terms of visitor and exhibitor numbers since VOS Media were bought by the Telegraph Media Group in 2013. The transition to Telegraph Events has helped us grow and improve the quality of our Shows, and with the backing of the Telegraph through an extensive editorial and advertising campaign, we have been able to reach a huge audience of high quality consumers.
“The team has managed to deliver an incredible line up of exhibitors, special guests and content, which has been highlighted in the fantastic feedback from visitors and exhibitors. The continued co-location with the The London Bike Show and the Triathlon Show: London helps exhibitors reach new relevant audiences and to tap into markets that were previously unavailable.
“We are delighted with the results and cannot wait to build upon the solid foundations
of these Shows in 2016.”
Andrew Denton – Chief Executive, OIA
